PAN Card is an identity card issued by the Income Tax Department (ITD) of India that has a unique 10-character alphanumeric code called PAN (Permanent Account Number). It is mainly used to track financial transactions, pay taxes, and used as a valid proof of identity of yours as well.
A PAN card is an official card that connects all your money-related activities (like salary, bank, property, tax) with one unique number issued by the government for you .
E-PAN CARD is the digital version/soft-copy of a PAN card issued online by the Income Tax Department.
- It contains the same 10-character PAN number and details as the physical PAN card.
- You can download it in PDF format on your device anytime anywhere.
- It is equally valid as the physical PAN card for all financial and identity purposes used.
Warning : As per the provisions of Section 139A of Income Tax Act, 1961, a person should not possess more than one PAN and as per Section 272B(1) . If an individual fails to comply with the provisions of section 139A i.e. if a person possesses more than one PAN, it will attract a penalty of Rs. 10,000.

Steps to Download E-PAN from the Official Income Tax Website :
- Go to the Income Tax e-Filing Portal
– Open the official website of ITD https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/ - Login to your Account
– Use your PAN number as your User ID → Enter password → Verify with OTP (if required). - Navigate to PAN Services
– After logging in, go to “Quick Links” or “PAN Services” on the screen.
– Select the option “Download e-PAN” present there. - Provide Details
– Enter your PAN number, Aadhaar number (if linked), and your Date of Birth. - OTP Verification
– You will receive an OTP on your Aadhaar-linked or registered mobile number/email → Enter it over there. - Download E-PAN
– Once verified, you can download the E-PAN PDF.
– The PDF is password-protected (usually DOB in DDMMYYYY format).
